Training Has Begun!!

Hello everyone,
Sorry about the delay in posting. Things have been quite hectic as we begin to gather the resources for the beginning of the Bible Distribution effort.

The mapping and tracking software came in this week. There is quite a bit to learn in using the software most effectively. It will help us to keep track of which households we have visited and which we still need to visit. It has some awesome capabilities that will help us to make connections between people and families. Please pray for me as I begin to learn how to use it. The finances for the cost of the software were miraculously provided, just in time for the beginning of the training. God's provision is perfect and always right on time!!

It has been an exciting two weeks since the last post, so let me try to catch you up.

Last Sunday, I had the privilege of preaching at Lindale Assembly. The message that God gave was a challenging message about personal evangelism and discipleship. Almost everyone in the congregation responded to the altar call for dedication to soul winning! The people of this church really have a heart for the lost and their surrounding community.

Tuesday evening, I conducted the first in a series of evangelism training sessions. Between 45-50 people were in attendance ( I didn't count, just an estimate ). Several people who signed up were not able to attend, but sent email and called to make sure that we knew that they would be at the next session. I believe that this group will be a catalyst for change in this city. They are excited - nervous - but excited.

We will be continuing the training process at Lindale Assembly next Tuesday.

I've decided to name what we are doing the CONNECTIONS MINISTRY. Through the Bible distribution and visitation portions of what we are doing, we are focusing on connecting people to God through Jesus Christ and also making personal connections and ways to connect people to our local churches. I think the name is appropriate.

I will begin the training process at 1st Assembly in Alvin, Texas this coming Sunday at 6 p.m. We have scheduled training sessions through May and June in Alvin, Texas.

I will also be preaching at Imperial Valley Assembly on May 18th as a kickoff to the CONNECTIONS MINISTRY there.

Pastor Jeff at Emerge Church has been quite busy with end of the school year testing. He is a school teacher. As soon as we can, we will begin the training process and begin reaching into the area that God has given him to plant a church.

Please pray for these churches, as they begin to extend their reach into their communities.

You can check out the upcoming training schedule by CLICKING HERE!

Looking forward to what God will do this week. If you are in the Houston area on any of the training dates, I'd love to see you there.

Blessings,

First Update and Church Profiles

Hello again,
This has been an exciting week. Things are moving along with the Bible Distribution Project. We've added another church and the management software is on it's way!

This is the first weekly update and, as promised, the general profiles of the participating churches.

Lindale Assembly
is located on the near north side of Houston. The church has been in existence since 1933. The demographic breakdown of the community has shifted drastically over time. When the church began, the church was in a fairly rural, logging community. Over the years, the city of Houston has grown to the 4th largest city in the nation. The church is now located in a community which is primarily Hispanic, low income, and has quite a bit of gang and drug activity. They have gone from rural to inner city. In the 1970's, the church had quite a bit of activity. The sanctuary was remodeled to seat approx. 1000 people. By the 1990's, because of the shifting population, the church had declined considerably. The church is now pastored by Rev. Randy Meeks, who has dedicated himself to staying in the inner city, to minister to the diverse culture and families of this community. With consistent outreach efforts, the church now has approx. 200 attendees in the English speaking service on Sunday morning, and has begun a Spanish speaking congregation which numbers about 110. You can check out their website at www.lindaleassembly.org

Emerge is a brand new church planting project, located on the south side of Houston. The Bible Distribution Project, along with other systematic community outreach will be used to plant the church. They are currently meeting in a rented conference room at a local motel. The church is pastored by Rev. Jeff Fox. There are at least 6 apartment complexes within walking distance of their meeting location. The area borders low income areas, but is also adjacent to the Medical Center, which is a growing area of upscale condos, etc. This one will be interesting to watch as we begin to interact with the community.

Imperial Valley Assembly is another church that has been around for a while. I was invited to the church a couple of weeks ago, to share the vision for evangelism and Bible Distribution. Pastor Kolbe is very excited about becoming involved in reaching their community on the north side of Houston as well. Their congregation is very small, approximately 20 - 40, and mostly composed of elderly people. I will be preaching at the church on May 18, in order to begin the training process. We are hoping to be able to bring in some extra workers from the other churches involved in the project, to help them revitalize their church and reach their community. This one will be quite a challenge, but God has brought us together for a reason.

This past Sunday, I had the privilege of preaching at Alvin First Assembly, with Pastor Dwayne Manes. I don't know a lot of the history of the church, but again, this is a church that has been around for a while. Their current attendance is approximately 80 on Sunday morning. The Pastor's concern is that they are not really reaching out to the community right now. The congregation responded really well on Sunday night to the vision sharing and evangelism challenge that was placed before them. We are now planning to begin training, and implementing the Bible Distribution Project in Alvin, Texas. Alvin is located approximately 30 miles south of Houston.

As I told you in the previous post, this is a diverse group of churches with different needs, located in a variety of cultural situations. There are other churches praying and thinking about the possibilities of becoming involved as well.

This is a long term project, with the goal of getting a Bible into every household, in every zip code, with an opportunity to pray with each family. Please pray with us for favor and finances as we begin this awesome task that God has given us.

There is a plaque hanging on the wall of my office that says:
"Step Out In Faith. If You Have The Faith To Do It... God Will Accomplish It!!"

Amen

Let's Get Started!!

Hello, and welcome to the new evangelism training blog from www.effective-evangelism-training.org.

I am Rev. Teddy Levron. I am an evangelist, home-based in the Houston, Texas area. Over the past 21 years, I have conducted many types of outreach events and projects on the streets of Houston and the surrounding area. I have also had the privilege of helping churches from all denominations to begin or refine their outreach efforts, to more efficiently and effectively reach their communities for Jesus Christ.

We are beginning a new Bible Distribution Project that is designed to systematically get Bibles into every household, with an opportunity to pray with each family. We are calling it the Community Lighthouse Neighborhood Connections Project. Currently, there are 3 churches who have committed to the project, with others showing an interest in becoming involved.

I've started this blog to document our successes and failures, triumphs and disappointments, hoping that those who read this blog, will be encouraged to become involved in sharing the Gospel and God's Word in their own communities. It is not always an easy task. Satan is always looking for a way to discourage us. But, by joining together in prayer and encouragement, we can overcome all obstacles.

The blog will be updated on a weekly basis for now. We are just beginning the project, so you will get the "behind the scenes" look at the preparation process, as well as the actual hands-on application of what we are doing.

Invite your friends to join along in this great adventure.

If I can personally be of help to you or your church with evangelism training or in any other way, you can drop me a message at:
http://www.effective-evangelism-training.org/contact.html

Next week, I will give you an outline of each church that is currently involved in the project. They vary from a new church planting project, to having been in existence since 1933. Quite a varied group wouldn't you say?

Looking forward to the journey. God Bless You!!
